The beauty industry has long had an unsolved waste problem emanating from the use of microplastics, microbeads, and other life-threatening ingredients in the product, as well as the many layers of unrecyclable plastic in its packaging.

For a product that would last a few weeks or, at best, months, the plastic packaging it came in would hang around forever, leaving behind a cavernous environmental footprint and ending up in landfills, rivers, and oceans. It’s estimated that the global beauty industry produces more than 120 billion units of packaging each year, and packaging accounts for 70% of the industry’s waste.

The UN Environment Programme

Due to the use-and-dispose model of consumption when it comes to beauty and skincare products, if current levels of consumption continue, there will be 12 billion metric tons of plastic in landfill.

At Herbaria, the plastic problem is something we tackle head-on with a conscious, empathetic, and informed approach, and by sticking to the good old tenets of reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Our products are formulated without the use of microbeads, which are usually used for exfoliation. Instead, we turned to natural alternatives like cellulose beads, fruit seeds, shells, flowers, and herbs.

When it comes to packaging, we have done away with single-use plastic jars/bottles/tubes and designed sturdy glass jars that can be put to use again and again over a long term.

Our one-of-a-kind refilling module is devised to ensure we shrink down plastic use further. And whatever plastic we end up using due to the lack of sustainable alternatives, we offset by recycling five times that amount in collaboration with disposal companies.

Our Refilling Process

Our unique refilling model will make sure you pay for just the product while also making an environmentally sound decision.
